March Happenings

THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH

Would you like to take a step in your faith and join the church as a member? The Session is receiving new members this week. Talk to Pastor Chelsea if you’d like to learn more.

The Session has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, March 19, following worship, in order for the congregation to receive the 2023 budget and to vote on Pastor Chelsea’s 2023 terms of call. Everyone is welcome to attend; members of the church may vote.

Lenten Soup Lunches will be offered by various groups at FPC during the six Sundays of Lent. A simple meal of soup and bread will be offered during the regular after-worship refreshment time.

These lunches will provide us the opportunity to remember those who go without on a regular basis.

Hospitality is so important to being a welcoming community of faith. Sign up to be a greeter on Easter on the back of the connection card!

Candy donations needed! We are collecting Easter candy for the egg hunt following worship on Easter Sunday. Candy donations can be dropped off on Sundays or during the week in the church office. We will be collecting through April 3. Thank you!

THANK YOU--First Presbyterian Etown was extremely blessed to have been a part of the Room in The Inn season this year!

Room in The Inn is a nonprofit group that works through collaborative church and community groups to house the homeless every night from December through February, in the coldest months of the year. Our team helped register, transport, host overnight and feed breakfast to the guests.

During the 2022-23 season, Room in The Inn was able to house 112 guests with a total number 1935 bed nights. More than 5208 volunteer hours were given in the 90 days by over 23 different churches and organizations. Thank you to all of the volunteers who ensured that our fellow neighbors had a warm place to sleep this winter!

VIP Luncheons

Very Important Presbyterians

It’s a new year and the VIP luncheons will again be held on the 3rd Friday of each month. The VIPs include both ladies and gentlemen to join in fellowship over a casual meal.

Each month we will meet at a different restaurant that will include places in Bardstown, E-town, Glendale, and Radcliff. An announcement will be published in our church bulletin the Sunday before the luncheon and then followed up with an email as a reminder. Your RSVP is important so that the venue can make seating arrangements for our group.

Our first luncheon will be held on March 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Cracker Barrel here in E-town.

If you have never attended a luncheon or you are not listed in the church directory yet, please contact Sarah Allred (913-206-1044 Sallred555@yahoo.com) or Lois Wilcox (281-989-2980 Lwilcox47111@gmail.com). We will add your contact information to our list. Hope to see you there!

Spotlight on Church Leadership: What is the foundation of church leadership?

G-2.0101 Christ’s Ministry

‘The Church’s ministry is a gift from Jesus Christ to the whole Church. Christ alone rules, calls, teaches, and uses the Church as he wills, exercising his authority by the ministry of women and men for the establishment and extension of God’s new creation. Christ’s ministry is the foundation and standard for all ministry, the pattern of the one who came “not to be served but to serve” (Matt. 20:28). The basic form of ministry is the ministry of the whole people of God, from whose midst some are called to ordered ministries, to fulfill particular functions. Members and those in ordered ministries serve together under the mandate of Christ.’

--The Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church USA (part of our constitution)

Please pray for our Nominating Committee as they begin their discernment!
