Worship at First Presbyterian
We gather at 8:30 on Sunday mornings for coffee, juice. light breakfast foods - sweet breads or muffins, fruit, cheese etc. - and conversation before worship.
If this is your first time worshiping with us at the Table Service, arriving between 8:30 and 8:40 will give you time to get some coffee and get seated at a table before the service begins.
For those with young children (second grade or younger) this is a great time to get them a snack and get them situated in our childcare suite which is just inside the entrance from the larger parking lot (west.)
Our Table Service is our more informal Sunday morning worship service. The congregation is seated at tables and shares in communion each week. The service uses reformed liturgy and newer music lead by a small acoustic ensemble - usually piano, guitar, and recorder. The proclamation is conversational with interaction at tables.
Four Sundays of the year (Easter, Christmas Sunday, Pentecost and World Communion Sunday) those who worship at the Table Service and those who worship at the Traditional Service join together for one 11 a.m. Celebration Service with Communion.
Our Traditional Service begins with the chiming of the hour at 11:00 on Sunday mornings. The minister gathers the congregation with a prayer from the baptismal font which is located at the entrance to the sanctuary followed by an organ prelude.
All children and youth are encouraged to worship with their parents on Sunday mornings. The opening elements of worship have been designed to be particularly accessible by children (readers and pre-readers!) After the "Glory to God" children kindergarten and younger may go to the childcare suite for Children's Worship or they may stay with their family. Older children and youth often serve as acolytes or help in other ways.
The music in this service is more traditional - most hymns are selected from the Presbyterian Hymnal - and is accompanied by organ. The chancel choir provides leadership for congregational singing along with an anthem. This service uses a printed Order of Service with reformed liturgy and communion on the first Sunday of each month.
After the Traditional Service (around 12:00 p.m. most Sundays) everyone is invited to stay for cup of coffee and a light snack.
Try both services to find what works for you or your family.
