Sunday Church School - Adults
There are three learning opportunities for adults during the Sunday Church School hour.
The Faith Seekers class is using the adult Seasons of the Spirit curriculum. This class is made up of women (though not limited to women!) Adults enter Bible study from a variety of backgrounds and beliefs. Seasons of the Spirit sessions invite adults to deepen their spirituality and explore their faith. The weekly lectionary readings (which parallel the scripture used to develop the liturgy and messages in our worship services) are explored through activities and articles that encourage a rich engagement with the biblical text. Art images, contemporary writings, and consideration of current issues offer meaningful ways to link faith and life. Every week the scripture readings are also connected to current events. Chris Snyder is the facilitator for the Faith Seekers class. This class is currently experimenting with meeting in the room previously used by the Thoughtful Christian class which is located between the Young Disciples and Lydia Circle classrooms.
The Thoughtful Christian class is preparing to begin God Views which is a video-based curriculum that helps us re-explore our understanding of God. It is the first installment of a four-part Curriculum of Christlikeness series designed to facilitate the experience of authentic transformation that also includes Renovation of the Heart, Celebration of Discipline, and Streams of Living Water . One's view of God is the most fundamental element of personal Christian formation. To misperceive God may result in a lifetime of avoiding His presence. But to see God clearly is to discover that the most powerful being in the universe is our compassionate Father. With the God Views materials, the group will enter a journey of discovery. Along the way, you will examine six of the most common false views of God, and four true pictures. You will also experience a variety of Bible studies and creative exercises designed to help you enter into more intimacy with your heavenly Father. Curt Cloninger, a talented teacher and comedian, will be your guide. His portrayals will make you laugh, and they will make you cry. Sometimes at the same time. Bob Beatty and Eric Guzman are facilitating the class. This class is currently experimenting with meeting in the Activity Room.
The Lydia Circle is a Presbyterian Women's circle which meets weekly during the Sunday Church School hour. They are currently using the Horizons Bible Study, Journeys Through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today. Barbara Rossing guides the journey to meet the crucified Lamb, Jesus. In a journey reminiscent of the ancient Israelites’ exodus from slavery, we are led from an unjust empire and its system of domination, through mythic battles and plagues, until, ultimately, we find ourselves in a renewed creation where Godcomes to live with us on earth. This brilliantly hopefilled vision speaks to us in the midst of the urgent crises of our day. In a time when all of creation stands at a turning point, a kairos moment, Revelation can help guide the choices we make each day as we seek to live into the renewal that God has for the whole world. Anne Swope is facilitating the study. The Lydia Circle meets in their room at the end of the hall past the Young Disciples Room.
