Kudos to Ann Swope and Denise Winebarger for helping organize the clean up and to Lucy Dunford, Beth Winebarger, David Vice, Jackie and Paul Gerard for picking up trash at the park on Saturday, April 12. With some 20 Central Hardin band and Beta club students, this "mighty" group rid Fishermen Park of 530 pounds of trash. So sorry Beth and Paul that we do not have a picture of you. David Vice rids the lake of a television. This log is no match for determined Lucy Dunford.) You are invited to join the First Presbyterian's Creation Care Team to care for God's creation.
What a great night we had Oct 10 at author/activist Sam Avery's ECTC Climate Change/Keystone Pipeline paradigm talk at which many of you joined us! Seventy-five persons were in attendance with several students. Several churches, including First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethtown, Radcliff Presbyterian Church, Memorial United Methodist Church, and The Community of Christ Episcopal/Christ Lutheran Chapel partnered with the Green Team and the Sustainability Committee of ECTC to bring this talk to the community.
Sam gave a compelling talk--simple in concept, calm and encouraging in tone-- but directly addressing this most critical challenge to humanity. He gave the audience three statistics to remember: (1) 2 degrees, (2) 41 percent and (3) four or five times. I will be explaining and addressing these numbers in subsequent blposts. Also joining us was Sister Clare from St. Catherine's in Washington County. She has been featured on NPR, CNN, USA Today-- http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/08/02/nuns-monks-deny-kentucky-gas-pipeline/2611405/ as the nun who told the pipeline company that they could not survey their land. She told me of their organization New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future stressing in Washington County. http://newpioneersfsf.org/ Finally, ECTC was a marvelous partner with which to collaborate. We are looking forward to this continuing relationship with developing an Earth Fair in the Spring! More coming up on that! |
